History
In the early 1980's the Association of Bronx Agencies (ABA) was formed by Mera Eisen, Director of Social Service for Montefiore Hospital. Bonnie Lester, Executive Director of East Bronx Council on Aging (EBCA) and Eileen Resnick met at Jewish Home and Hospital and convened the Aging subcommittee of ABA in 1985. Bonnie Lester and Eileen Resnick decided to establish the sub-committee as a separate organization. BRICA incorporated in 1988 and obtained 501(c)3non-profit status. Eileen Resnick eventually applied for and received a grant from the New York Foundation and hired Sarah Cousins. During that period of time Eileen and Sarah wrote the By-Laws and produced two videos, one about Senior Centers and one about homebound elderly. The South Bronx Council on Aging and EBCA folded into BRICA during that time. In 2006 The Northwest Bronx Council on Aging and BRICA merged in order to provide a stronger more cohesive Interagency Council on Aging for the Bronx. BRICA now represents many agencies throughout the Bronx and receives support from The New York City Department for the Aging and the Borough Presidents Office. BRICA meets monthly (2nd Monday at 3 PM) at The Borough Presidents Office. Speakers vary and visitors are welcome. Email for more information This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
